Why conduct an oral history?

Oral histories are usually recorded conversations between and interviewer and a community member.  The interviewer may ask questions about a specific event, a certain period of time or ask details about a person's life.  The Interviewer often uses  audio or video to record conversation. These interviews create a record for future generations. By producing a record with a first person perspective, oral histories have significant impact, not always contained in written sources.  Oral histories are often preserved in archives and may be focused on a certain subject, time period or region.

If you know someone old or young who would like to contribute to the state's historical record, consider an oral history.
